The humorous pun in the club's name has attracted interest from around the world. The club has benefited by granting honorary memberships to people who would not normally fit its criteria for membership. When read out the name erroneously implies that the club provides a place for 'idle' or lazy working men to drink, rather than simply being a working men's club in the village of Idle. The unique name has acquired the club a cult status around the world, with many clamouring for an official 'Idle Working Men's Pass'. Past and present honorary members include Mohammed Al Fayed, Paul Gascoigne, Uri Geller, Roger Moore, Tom O'Connor, Lester Piggot, Richard Whiteley and Michael Jackson.

The club has undergone a COVID-19 risk assessment. Additionally, all rooms have been redecorated and deep cleaning has been undertaken throughout. The club have also implemented the following social distancing measures to make your visit a safe and enjoyable experience.
